What You Need To Know About Some Of The Most Famous Diamonds

There are a handful of famous diamonds in the world that carries with it very colorful history. A few of these famous diamonds are very old that they are even associated to some the deities being worshipped in the areas where they were found. On the other hand, some of these famous diamonds are associated with curses that have been passed for generations and whoever owns these cursed diamonds are either supposed to die at a young age of suffer through a lot of miseries in life. Of course most of these stories are just myths to make the history of a famous diamond more colorful so there is really no imminent danger to your life if you own one of these very famous “cursed” diamonds.

The Cullinan Diamond

One of the most famous diamonds of all times in the Cullinan diamonds which was found by Frederick Wells in Culliman, Gauteing, South Africa during the early part of the year 1905. Weighing about 3,106.75 carats or about 621.35 grams, this diamond is the largest rough gem-quality diamond even found. According to Sir William Crookes who inspected and analyzed this diamonds, the Culliman diamond has remarkable clarity but it also has a black spot in the middle.

The color of the black spot in the middle of the diamond is said to be very vivid which could be a sign of some internal strains inside the diamonds. Strains inside diamonds, especially large diamonds such as the Cullinan, diamond is very common so there is really nothing strange about the presence of the black spot in the middle of the diamond. However, for many superstitious people living in Africa where this famous diamond was found, the black spot in the diamond is a sign of evil. They believe that the huge diamond was cursed that it is supposed to bring some bad luck to its owners. Fortunately, there is no truth to the curse and the owners of this famous diamond did not suffer through the ten-fold bad luck which is said to accompany the diamond.

The Koh-i-Noor Diamond

Another famous diamonds that is said to be cursed is the Koh-i-Noor diamond which is now part of the British Crown Jewels. The Koh-i-Noor is a 105 carat or 21.6 gram diamond which originated from the Andhra Pradesh in India. It was once known as the largest known diamond in the world before the discovery other digger diamonds like the Cullinan. Before this famous diamond became part of the British Crown Jewel, this diamond belonged to various Persian and Indian rulers. Legends have it that this diamond originally belonged to the Indian deity Krishna and was stolen from his possession while he slept. This diamond is said to bring bad luck to its male owners but bring prosperity to its female owners.
